Pumped Up Kicks
Got new rims for the evo today. I found the perfect size that I’ve been looking for. The tricky parts about getting rims are width and the offset. Some like it flush, meaning the wheels extend out of the normal fenders but I like to keep it real. I always wanted my car to look like the exact (well, almost) legendary rally car of the late 90s. The Lancer Evolution VI T.M.E. That said, going flush was never an option.
A tarmac setup in WRC sported low ride heights which actually seemed offset from the from and the rear, meaning the rear looks lower than the front because the tires would tend to encroach on the upper border of the rear fender while the front tires would have just about an inch between the tire and fender. This just makes more room for the front tire for steering purposes but in reality, the front and rear are pretty much the same height from the ground.
So I had to look for a perfect rim that could fit and be lowered without having the bad effect of tire scrubbing on my rear fender. The solution: Rays Volk ce28 (copies) 18 x 8.5 +38 rims. They were able to clear the big brembo brake calipers with about 3mm to spare on the front. I slapped on 245/40/18 sticky tires on them and viola! We have a tarmac setup.
I just love how the car “stands” now. The stance is that of a champion rally car. The next step is wheel alignment. Plan is to have negative camber on all 4 wheels. -2.0 in front and -1.0 to -1.5 at the back.
